The Fall of Gondolin was the climactic battle between Gondolin’s forces, led by King Turgon, and Morgoth’s armies, made possible after Maeglin betrayed the city’s hidden location. Most of the Gondolindrim perished in the assault, including Turgon and his captains. Yet a small group escaped through a secret passage, most notably Tuor, his wife Idril, and their son Eärendil, who would later play a pivotal role in Middle-earth’s history.
