The troop pause a while to watch the giants at play but all around the Goblins lurk waiting for the company to lowers its guard…..
In The Hobbit’s fourth chapter, “Over Hill and Under Hill,” Bilbo witnesses stone-giants across the valley engaged in a boisterous game, hurling great boulders back and forth for sport rather than malice. The scene is more spectacle than peril—thunderous and awe-inspiring, but not directed at the travelers below. Neither Bilbo nor the dwarves are targeted or endangered by the giants’ play. Gandalf later even expresses a wish to seek them out for conversation, underscoring that they’re regarded as curious.
